In today’s workplace, supporting mental health is just as vital as promoting physical wellbeing, and this World Mental Health Day we want to showcase the importance of The Mental Health First Aider Qualification.
The Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) qualification, accredited by MHFA England, plays a key role in creating mentally healthy and supportive organisations.
A Mental Health First Aider isn’t a counsellor or therapist. Instead, they act as a first line of support – much like a physical first aider would for a physical injury. MHFAiders are trained to listen without judgment, identify early signs of distress, provide reassurance, and assist someone in crisis until professional help is available. They maintain confidentiality, set healthy boundaries, and help create a psychologically safe environment at work.
Our HR Officer Ella Mee qualified as a Mental Health First Aider in August 2025 and comments: “The MHFA England course equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental ill health, start supportive and non-judgmental conversations, and guide people towards professional or self-help resources. It aims to build a culture where people feel safe to talk about mental health and seek help early”.
